Purin-low For dogs that are sensitive to purin

Purin are organic combinations that play an important role for the building if new cells and the genetic make-up of dogs as well of humans.

Purins are part of numerous food and can in  found in many meat varieties.

When the body  metabolises purin some uric acid is produced. That is normal and no reason  to worry. Under certain conditions it can happen that the uric acid cannot be fully disposed from the body and that may lead to health issues.

When it is recommended to reduce purin in the food?

In the following situations it is better to use a food that has a low level of purin.

• Dalmatians with a genetic defect that prevents the food’s purin tp be metabolized to allantoin,.
• Dogs with the medication Allopurinol as part of a leishmaniosis

Proven food with a low level of purin

To determine if the food really has a low level of purin, the food has to be analysed for purin and uric acids. The purins are then recalculated to their equivalent of uric acid and added to the level of uric acid. The result is the (complete) level of uric acid in the product.

The (complete) level of uric acid of “Purin-low” is 40mg/100g and can be qualified as extremely low.

Preparing the meal

The food simply needs to be mixed with hot water (3 parts water to 1 part food) and left to stand for 10 minutes. If you feed the dry product please offer the dog sufficient tap water.

Feeding recommendation (daily portion based on the weight of the fully grown dog):

Dogs weighing up to 5kg: 60g,
Dogs weighing 5 kg up to 25kg: 120 g,
Dogs weighing 25 kg up to 40kg: 240g
